Apprenticeship: Cutting machine operator (m/f/d)

A cutting machine operator is a skilled worker who manufactures precision components from metal and other materials. Various machining processes are used in this profession, such as turning, milling and grinding. Machinists often work on CNC (Computerised Numerical Control) machines, which enable high precision and efficiency in the machining of workpieces.

For the production of individual parts, prototypes or small series, conventional or manually controlled machines are used, the operation of which requires skill and many years of experience.

The main tasks of a cutting machine operator include:

  1. Programming and setting up machines: Cutting machine operators are responsible for setting up the machines for the respective processing and selecting the correct programmes or creating them themselves.
  2. Monitoring the production process: During machining, they monitor the process to ensure that the quality of the parts meets the specified standards.
  3. Quality control: You carry out regular checks to ensure that the manufactured parts are precise and free of defects.
  4. Maintenance and servicing: Cutting machine operators are also responsible for the maintenance and servicing of the machines to ensure their functionality.
  5. Teamwork: They often work closely with other specialists, such as engineers and designers, to find the best solutions for production.

Training as a cutting machine operator usually takes three to three and a half years and includes both practical and theoretical content. This profession requires a good technical understanding, manual dexterity and a high degree of precision. Machining mechanics find employment in various industries, including mechanical engineering, the automotive industry, etc.
